Surface Treatments in North Georgia & Western North Carolina

Surface treatment is a pavement that is constructed with aggregate and tar emulsion. It is a material that has been used on county and local roads for decades. When installed over gravel roads it is used with a three-layer stone application, and a double layer application for resurfacing older surface treatment roads. Other names for surface treatment are “Tar and Chip” or “Tar and Gravel” or “Chipseal”.

This pavement is ideal for longer roads or drives that do not have steep grades. It should only be performed during the warm seasons in the mountains. You can find surface treatment roads all over North Georgia and Western North Carolina. The natural cosmetics of this product blend well in mountain settings. It is durable and only gets better as it cures.

Though it is not recommended but for only certain projects, it is a cost-effective pavement that gives an alternative solution to pavement needs other than asphalt.
